RECEPTION CENTRE INFORMATION

In an emergency, residents are expected to be prepared and self-sufficient for 72 hours (3 days). Reception centres will open 72 hours after an emergency occurs when there are no travel warnings and at the discretion of the Emergency Operations Centre Team.

The most common local emergency, power outages, may necessitate the immediate opening of Reception Centers and the decision to do so will be made by the EOC Team. The Reception Centers will be opened and staffed as needed, with the expectation that the Cavendish Wellness Center will be the primary site, given the resources available at that location. The opening and running of the Reception Centers will be dependent upon immediate need, staff available and the overall prudent use of resources.

Reception Centres, in an emergency, when needed, will offer fresh water and mobile device charging stations which will be accessible by residents, regardless of whether Reception Centres are open or staffed.

In an emergency, where residents are unable to maintain self-sufficiency, Reception Centres may temporarily be designated as “Emergency Centres” and offer evacuees temporary accommodation until alternative arrangements can be made. The decision to use a Reception Centre as an Emergency Centre will be made in consultation with police and fire personnel, as well as the Emergency Operations Centre team, where appropriate.

As weather and/or emergencies can be dynamic events, the above plans will be used as a general guideline and may be adapted or changed in whole or in part, without notice, by Three Rivers Council or the emergency Operations Centre team.

If these centres are required to open you can receive the latest updates on the Town’s Facebook page or by calling 902-838-2528.
