With fires burning in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick, the Province of Prince Edward Island is taking steps to help mitigate the risk posed by trees brought down by post-tropical storm Fiona.  The Town of Three Rivers supports those efforts and will help where needed.

Three Rivers currently has three operational warming centres; located in Montague, Cardigan and Lower Montague.  In the event of an emergency, each of these warming centres is available as an immediate resource for displaced or evacuated residents.  Access to the centres can be gained through responding emergency personnel, who will advise the Three Rivers Emergency Operations Committee (EOC).  The warming centres would temporarily house residents until alternative arrangements can be made.

In September, in anticipation of the upcoming hurricane season, the Three Rivers EOC will be hosting information sessions so that residents can provide input and contribute to emergency planning.  Rural PEI residents are well known for pulling together to help each other in times of crisis and the Three Rivers EOC will be seeking community minded individuals who live in close proximity to the warming centres, to assist with opening and manning the centres.

Our volunteer fire fighters are the first responders to any type of fire in Three Rivers and they are supported by P.E.I. Forestry services.  A fire ban is currently in place for Prince Edward Island and all residents are asked to respect the burning ban.
