A new bylaw for mobile vendors in the Town of Three Rivers is slated for first reading by Council on September 13 and, if passed, will go to second reading in October to be enacted before the end of the year.

The Licensing and Street Vendors Bylaw regulates location, establishes the fee structure and procedure for obtaining a license to operate, and outlines waste and wastewater disposal requirements.

The draft was created using the existing street vendor bylaw in Georgetown as a reference. Public input was sought over a period of two months.

“We have a responsibility to our residents to have some regulations in place, but we certainly don’t want red tape deterring anyone from establishing here,” said Three Rivers Mayor Ed MacAulay. “Thanks to Council, staff and everyone who provided feedback, we now have a product before Council that we believe is fair and reasonable and demonstrates that we welcome vendors and want to work with them in Three Rivers.”

The proposed bylaw includes lunch trucks, push carts, food trucks/trailers, and other mobile sales establishments.

Once passed, vendors will have an opportunity to apply for their permit and operator’s license prior to the next season. Staff will be available to assist vendors with the application process. Additional information will be available on the Town’s website following final reading.

Council is also voting on a bylaw with respect to Municipal Offences, Ticketing, and Enforcement to clearly establish the process and procedures for bylaw enforcement and any fines or offenses.
