New Wards in Effect for Three Rivers’ Municipal Election

THREE RIVERS, PE/ Three Rivers’ current ten-ward system is being replaced in the upcoming
municipal election with a new four-ward system. With the development of four new wards that represent
all of the Town’s communities, each ward will elect two councillors, and all four wards will collectively
elect one town Mayor.

This new system gives more power to each individual voter in determining the council, as they now have
the power to elect two officials in their ward, rather than only one, in the previously smaller wards.
Additionally, compared to an at-large system, a ward system recognizes more effectively the real
differences that exist between different areas of the town.
“This election is an exciting turning point for the Town as we shift to our new four wards. This will give
individual voters a larger say in council, while still maintaining their local representation,” says CAO Jill
Walsh.

The four new wards are named as follows, and encompass the regions they are named after, along with
surrounding areas.
1. Gaspereaux
2. Montague
3. Brudenell
4. Launching

“It is important for voters to be aware of the new wards, so that they can become familiar with the
candidates they will be able to vote for. We encourage all electors to do their research and reach out to the
town if needed.”

Town voters can find information about what their new ward is online by visiting Elections PEI’s
Municipal Election Ward Map. This election is also the first election that Elections PEI will be running
for the Town.

The first days for voters to cast votes, at advanced polls, in their new wards will be October 29th and 31st,
and November 4th. Election day is Monday, November 7th. Citizens can find more information about the
election here.
