MEDIA RELEASE – FOR IMMEDIATE DISTRIBUTION

With the upcoming storm, the Town of Three Rivers wants to remind citizens to ensure they are prepared and self sufficient for the first 72 hours.  Please refer to the Province website for assistance in preparation:  How to be Prepared for an Emergency | Government of Prince Edward Island

The Town of Three Rivers currently has four reception centers:

  • Cardigan – 358 Shore Road
  • Georgetown – 36 Kent Street (temporarily at the location of the old library)
  • Lower Montague – 179 Lower Montague Road
  • Montague – Cavendish Wellness Centre – 21 Sullivan Drive

During the first 72 hours after a major weather event, the reception centers will operate as Emergency Centers.  This means that they will be opened and staffed at any time of the day or night, depending on the need.  Citizens can access the centers via the police, the fire department or ambulance services.  After 72 hours, or sooner if roads are passable and there is a need, one or more of the reception centers will be open and staffed, typically from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm.

The Lower Montague and Cardigan reception centers currently have water and power available on the outside of the buildings in the event of a power outage.  Look for metal boxes on the side of the buildings, which will be unlocked and contain power bars for charging devices.  In a power outage, Georgetown will have power available in the library and citizens can access it by calling the phone number posted on the door.  Water in Georgetown is available at the back of the fire hall.

Please visit the Town of Three Rivers website or on Facebook, or follow the Georgetown Fire Department, the Cardigan Fire Department or the Montague Fire Department on Facebook for updates.
