New Winter Festival coming to Three Rivers, Prince Edward Island

Three Rivers, Prince Edward Island – The community of Three Rivers is excited to announce the inaugural Winterval, a winter festival taking place January 20-22, 2023.

“This event was made possible through a joint application from Active Communities Development Inc. and the Town of Three Rivers for Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency’s (ACOA) Rediscover Main Streets initiative funding, with additional support from Tourism PEI,” said Executive Director of Active Communities Development Inc. Martina MacDonald. “The community of Three Rivers has been in need of a winter event, and we are thrilled to be able to bring Winterval to life. With something for everyone, we invite the community and beyond to join us in celebrating the winter season.”

“Winterval is the perfect opportunity to showcase Three Rivers as a wonderful place to visit in any season. With support from the Government of Canada, this new winter festival will help local organizations and tourism operators develop fresh approaches and innovative ways to revitalize and engage their communities, support local businesses, and deliver high quality experiences for visitors.”

–       The Honourable Lawrence MacAulay, Minister of Veterans Affairs, Associate Minister of National Defence and Member of Parliament for Cardigan

“Winterval encourages us to embrace the colder weather, while growing our winter tourism season on Prince Edward Island,” said Minister of Economic Growth, Tourism and Culture Bloyce Thompson. “This festival is perfect for both Islanders and visitors to enjoy and supports economic growth in our Island communities.”

Winterval will feature a variety of free events for the whole family, including a snow zone, sledding, skating, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and a party zone with a variety of inflatables for kids to enjoy. There will also be pool parties, sleigh rides, children’s entertainment at King’s Playhouse, and live music and kitchen parties at local breweries.

For those looking to make a weekend out of it, Rodd Brudenell Resort is offering 2-night packages starting from $399 plus tax. This package includes turn down service for kids, a chocolate milk and cookie bedtime snack, hot cocoa with marshmallows, coffee and tea in the lobby, and a hot buffet breakfast hosted by musician Michael Pendergast. Departure day features a “Dress as Your Favourite Character” breakfast, and hotel guests will have exclusive access to the Winterval pool parties and movie night.

There are a number of special events and activities happening around the community of Three Rivers during Winterval that are free for both hotel guests and the general public. These events offer a great opportunity for the community to enjoy the resort and experience some unique winter activities.

Funding partners include the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency, Department of Economic Growth, Tourism & Culture, The Town of Three Rivers, and Active Communities Inc.
