Lorne Valley
Lorne Valley is located just northwest of the community of Cardigan, in the municipality of Three Rivers. Lorne Valley was established in 1878, and takes its name from a place in Scotland owned by the Marquess of Lorne, Governor General of Canada from 1878-1883. Before its naming to Lorne Valley, it had previously been known as the Pisquid Back Road Settlement. The early Scottish settlers of Lorne Valley, mostly consisted of farmers who cultivated the rich Island soil and grew plentiful crops. The early settlements were established on what is known now as the Lorne Valley Road, centering around the Presbyterian church, which had been moved from a neighbouring community, Cardigan Head, around the year 1900.
Lorne Valley today is a quaint, picturesque community that has an active group of involved community residents and community gathering places. There is the Lorne Valley Hall known for its legendary dances and ceilidhs and often used for meetings or anniversaries within the area. Lorne Valley although a smaller community, boasts a general store, butchers shop, rich agriculture and the Lorne Valley Ranch.
