Mayor’s Message – COVID-19 Update

On behalf of the Council and staff, I want to provide a brief update to our residents.

First and foremost, our thoughts are with the residents in our community and across the Island as we all work together to reduce the impact this virus will have on the people of our province. We want to thank those who are sacrificing and working tirelessly every day to help manage this situation.

I also want to thank each of you who are heeding the advice of our Chief Medical Health Officer and practicing self-isolation and social distancing. We know that by following this advice and the instructions of our public health professionals we’ll be much better off in the long run.

To that end, the Town Council and staff are taking measures to protect the health and safety of everyone – staff, Council and residents.  This includes the following measures:

  • All Town of properties are closed to the public
  • Town offices are closed to the public, but staff are fully accessible by phone and email
  • Social distancing and work from home procedures are being put in place for staff as appropriate

Please be assured that essential Town services will continue to operate as normal, including water and sewer and snow removal. We are appreciative of our volunteer partners in the fire departments, who continue to provide fire services. Should you have to call 9-1-1 for any emergency services, please inform the operator if anyone present is experiencing symptoms of covid-19.

We encourage everyone to follow the direction and advice from our Public Health Office. You can find all that information here.

Additionally, for employees and our business owners, we know this is hitting many of you very hard. There have been announcements from both the Federal and Provincial governments to try and alleviate the burden. You can find information for all of these on their respective websites.

Thank you for your patience and support during this difficult time.

Sincerely,

Ed MacAulay, Mayor.
