Georgetown
Georgetown is a beautiful community, full of historic heritage buildings that add to its charm. Georgetown was founded in 1732 and incorporated in 1912. With one of the deepest harbours in North America, it once boasted a major shipbuilding centre. The area today has become a must-stop for tourists with its vintage buildings, stunning boardwalk along the waterfront, and a thriving theatre and arts community. Georgetown is home to the King’s Playhouse, a destination for many tourists and Islanders alike built in 1887! The King’s Playhouse hosts a variety of shows, events and programs during the peak-season, there is something for everyone.
Fishing is another major industry that supports and grows Georgetown’s economic prosperity, with Seafood 2000 being one of the areas major season employers. Georgetown’s infrastructure has tremendous potential for growth in terms of their all weather highway access, 35 acres of available industrial land and a large well-trained workforce in the area!
Fun fact: The King’s Playhouse Theatre in Georgetown is one of the longest running theatres in Canada!
